Education is the solution to Child Labor

An estimated 246 million children around the world are exploited for their labor every day.*

113 million children are not enrolled in primary school, 60% being girls.**

According to UNESCO, the United Nations' Education Scientific and Cultural Organization, "Poverty cannot be eradicated without eliminating child labour. It will not be eradicated without achieving education for all children. Free, compulsory education of high quality, is the most effective, preventive, curative and sustainable strategy to end child labour."

To do this, the UN has proposed Education for All (EFA) – needing $5.6 billion annually to achieve the goal of universal primary education by 2015.

Deep Roots is doing its part to stop child labor by providing scholarships taking kids out of the labor market and into the classroom. Read more about how DR in Guatemala did just that.

Check out the recent documentary "Stolen Childhoods" exploring the world of child labor.
