Post-Secondary School Programs

While the focus of our work is on enabling young women and men to complete their primary and secondary education, Deep Roots has started the Girls’ Scholarship Program in Namibia to assist female scholars past high school. In addition, we make funding available to students in post-secondary training in Namibia and Zambia on a case-by-case basis and greatly appreciate donors making the possibility of tertiary education a reality for our students!

NAMIBIA

  • The Girls' Scholarship Program (GSP) serves as a college preparatory program for Namibian girls in grades 10-12. It also funds the first (and possible later) year of university study.
  • To be eligible for the GSP, girls have to continuously perform well in school to prove their potential.
  • Extra mentoring is provided to high schools girls in the GSP; graduates from the program are expected to give back by mentoring younger scholars.
  • In addition, arrangements are made on a case-by-case basis to assist donors in funding specific post-secondary students.

ZAMBIA

  • Occasionally, when a sponsor wants to continue a relationship with a student after graduation from High School, Deep Roots will facilitate the relationship, including continued sponsorship.
  • Students may continue on to college or vocational training - there are several teacher training schools, agricultural colleges, and universities; students may also go to a major university in South Africa.
  • The student must write a detailed budget, which is sent to the sponsor for him/her to accept.
  • If agreed, the exchange of funds takes place through Deep Roots and DAPP; however, neither DAPP nor Deep Roots takes responsibility for tracking use of the funds beyond their delivery to the scholar.
