DAPP - DEVELOPMENT AID FROM PEOPLE TO PEOPLE

DAPP logoDevelopment Aid from People to People (DAPP) in Zambia is part of a worldwide network of development organizations working to improve the lives of underprivileged children. It aims to improve income security for disadvantaged families, to educate children and their communities about health and hygiene (including AIDS), to mobilize communities to help orphans in their villages, to aid communities in establishing pre-schools, to help form youth clubs and women's groups, and to encourage environmental protection (e.g., planting trees and building fire-wood saving stoves).

In Zambia's Southern Province (DRZ's area of operation), the DAPP project goes by the name Child Aid and Environment. DAPP's approach is holistic. Programs are targeted both at children and at their families and communities, with the goal of developing a better environment for children to grow up in.

DAPP's approach is community-based. Most of its activities are run through family groups organized in each village and run by a local group leader. Initiatives, as for improved farming techniques, are often started by the groups and then spread through the network to other areas.

DAPP has worked with many organizations over the years, including UNICEF, USAID, and IFAD (International Fund for Agricultural Development), as well as many local groups.

DRZ's scholarship program fits nicely into Child Aid and Environment's wide array of activities in the Southern Province.
